Concerning the ISRO Free Course
India’s national space agency is called the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It serves as the main branch of the Department of Space (DoS), which is directly under the direct supervision of the Indian Prime Minister and is run by the Chairman of ISRO.
Tasks pertaining to space-based operations, space exploration, international space cooperation, and the advancement of related technologies fall under the purview of ISRO. Among the six government space agencies globally, ISRO is equipped with cryogenic engines, can launch extraterrestrial missions, and manages a sizable fleet of man-made satellites. Among the four government space agencies, ISRO is equipped with the ability to perform soft landings without a crew.
A crucial strategy for comprehending and controlling the complex dynamics of ecosystems is the monitoring and modeling of the forest carbon and water cycles. It is possible to evaluate forest carbon stocks and water cycle patterns over large areas by utilizing satellite imagery, geographic information systems, and remote sensing techniques. Using sophisticated modeling algorithms and data integration techniques, it is possible to simulate different scenarios and forecast how variations in climate and forest cover may affect carbon sequestration and water availability in various locations.
Synopsis of the Program
The course is delivered by the outreach facility of IIRS. Through its outreach program, IIRS has successfully conducted 139 courses to date, with 5,82,369 participants from 3219+ Institutions/Universities (as of January 31, 2023) spread across India.
The course’s goal is to familiarize academics, researchers, and forest managers with the use of geospatial technology in monitoring and modeling the water cycle and forest carbon.
Participants in the Target
Professionals, researchers, and students (at least graduate level) working in the fields of modeling, environmental studies, forest management, conservation, vegetation ecology, and geospatial technology are the target audience for this course.
ISRO Free Course Certificate of Achievement Registered through Nodal Centers: Students will receive a “Courses Participation Certificate” if they attend 70% of the classes. Individual Sign-Up: All participants who commit to the course for at least 70% of each session will receive a “Course A participation” certificate.
