Concerning the SURGE Initiative
The SURGE program at IIT Kanpur was started in 2006 with the goal of encouraging undergraduate students to pursue research. SAARC Countries’ SURGE
Undergraduate students from SAARC nations (Nepal and Bhutan) are eligible to enroll in the SURGE program. A maximum of four SAARC students may apply under this category for the SURGE program for the forthcoming summer internship in 2025. Students who are chosen in this category can receive a scholarship worth Rs. 16,000/-. Additionally, travel expenditures are reimbursed up to a limit of Rs. 10,000 or as real.
The following are the prerequisites for students from SAARC nations at the beginning of their internship:
(i) a five-year degree program (third or fourth year finished); (ii) a B.Tech, BE, B-Arch, or BS degree (3rd year completed).
(iii) B.Sc. or B.A., second year finished
(iv) Two-year M.Sc. (first year finished)
SURGE for Indian Students Non-IITK
Applications for summer internships at IIT Kanpur are open to non-IITK Indian students whose CPI is greater than or equal to 6.
Below are the requirements for non-IITK students must meet in order to be eligible for an internship:
SURGE for students at IIT Kanpur (IITK) who have finished the third year of a five-year degree program (i) or a B.Tech, BE, B-Arch, or BS program (ii)
(iii) B.Sc. or B.A., second year finished
(iv) Two-year M.Sc. (first year finished)
SURGE for students at IIT Kanpur (IITK)
This program offers IITK students with CPI >= 5.5 the chance to work with a selected mentor at IITK. The student must find an IITK faculty member who is willing to serve as his or her mentor during the summer internship and an appropriate project to work on for the eight weeks of summer in order to finish the application.
When the internship begins, IITK students must meet the following qualifying requirements:
(i) A completed second or third year of a B.Tech or BS
(ii) Two, three, and four-year dual degrees,
(iii) Two-year, first-year M.Sc.
