Since its founding, the well-known Indian e-commerce startup Flipkart has drastically changed the country’s online purchasing scene. Flipkart began as an online bookstore out of a two-bedroom apartment in Bangalore when it was founded in October 2007 by Sachin and Binny Bansal, both former Amazon workers and graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Its product line has grown over time to encompass a large number of items in different categories.
Flipkart has a significant market share of about 48% in the Indian e-commerce industry as of the fiscal year 2023. Snapdeal, a homegrown competitor, and Amazon India are its main rivals. The business has had a significant impact in the clothing industry, especially since purchasing Myntra.
